Our Story

RETAXE was born out of the desire to share this pristine and uncrowded slice of surfing paradise with surfers seeking a more relaxed, adventurous and customizable surf experience.
We understand that surfing can be intimidating and even scary. And with surfing’s popularity exploding in recent years, we’ve also seen first-hand how lineups are becoming more crowded and competitive.
That’s why we created RETAXE – to offer an alternative to the typical surf trip, where you can truly relax, explore and build the vacation of your dreams.

At its core, surfing is about pure enjoyment in nature. Surfing with dozens of other surfers, all of whom are competing for the same waves, can take away from that experience. The learn-to-surf journey becomes more nerve-wracking than blissful, and even more advanced surfers may find themselves feeling anxious and pressured in a busy lineup.

We offer a different kind of surf retreat experience in El Salvador for a specific type of surfer: one who wants to progress at their own pace without hectic crowds or heavy waves while enjoying a dream vacation full of adventures in the stunning Gulf of Fonseca.
And the result?

Never heard of the term “retaxe” before? It’s a uniquely Salvadoran word used to describe a surfing maneuver whereby you turn your surfboard vertically off the lip of the wave. It’s a spectacular maneuver that requires skill, balance and timing, and given the right waves, attitude and coaching, we hope to see you “retaxe” with us very soon.
